Students Receive Awards from Zoetis Veterinary Student Scholarship Program

Fourteen second- and third-year students at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine will each receive a $2,000 scholarship awarded by animal health company Zoetis and the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges.

NC State CVM recipients are: Lauren Brierley, Daniel Carreño, Amanda Fox, Shelby Grillo, Ethan Hefner, Rachael Kearns, Adriea Laurore, Adele Miller, Kristina Simmons, Nicola Steers, Jennifer Stiles, April Summers, Abigail Wisnet, Vanessa Wolf.

The Zoetis Veterinary Student Scholarship Program supports leadership and diversity among future veterinarians and helps offset costs of a veterinary education. A total of $974,000 was awarded to 487 students enrolled in veterinary medicine colleges in the U.S. and Caribbean. Nearly 1,200 applicants were evaluated based on criteria, including academic excellence, leadership, financial need, diversity, and career path.

“We are proud to reward and recognize these veterinary students who are already demonstrating academic excellence, a commitment to veterinary medicine and leadership,” said Christine Jenkins, Chief Veterinary Medical Officer with Zoetis. “By investing in the next generation of veterinarians, we can address some of our existing industry challenges, including the issues of student debt and the need for greater diversity in the veterinary profession.”

Launched six years ago, the scholarship program is part of the Zoetis Commitment to Veterinarians initiative, which offers support through training and education, research and development, investing in the future of the veterinary profession, and philanthropy.
