The big day at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine is almost here! On March 23, the college will open its doors to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the annual Open House.

At this extremely popular free event, the community is invited to explore our College of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Hospital to see how we are a driving force in veterinary research, training and medical care.

Throughout the day, you can learn more about the operations and facilities at our veterinary hospital and take your budding veterinarians to check out what the classrooms and laboratories in a state-of-the-art college of veterinary medicine are like.

Open House activities include:

  • Behind-the-scenes tours of the Veterinary Hospital
  • Hands-on experiences alongside students and faculty
  • Stuffed animal repairs at our Teddy Bear Clinic
  • A cow-milking booth
  • Face painting
  • Interactions with farm animals
  • Kid zones featuring Marbles Kids Museum’s Ready, Set, Vet booth
  • Sessions led by veterinary medicine researchers
  • Presentations from current College of Veterinary Medicine students
  • Demonstrations from local animal organizations
  • Food trucks and Howling Cow ice cream
  • A meet and greet with Mr. Wuf and Ms. Wuf

“We have something for everybody,” said Ly Le, a second-year student and junior Open House coordinator with the NC State Student American Veterinary Medical Association. “Whether it’s a prospective student or friends, family or the community, we have something for everyone to enjoy and see what we love about NC State.”

The Open House is also an opportunity for the College of Veterinary Medicine and its students to inspire the next generation of healers.

“We want to showcase NCSU Vet Med to the public and show all the possibilities that you have for a career in veterinary medicine,” said Mallory Flanagan, a third-year student and the senior Open House coordinator with SAVMA. “There’s a spot for anyone in veterinary medicine, especially at NC State. No matter what you want to do, whether it’s small animal general practitioner or you want to get super specific and do surgery or you really like parasites. Just about any passion you have, you can find it in veterinary medicine.”
