College of Veterinary Medicine Bestows Honors, Celebrates Award Winners

For the first time, the college offered awards based on its value statement, which has four prongs: innovation, inclusivity, community and passion.

The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine community gathered Thursday for festivities to honor faculty and staff members, including those who have won awards throughout the academic year, and to bestow the college’s own awards.

For the first time, the college offered awards based on its value statement, which has four prongs. The Living Our Values Community Spirit Award winners for each category this year are:

  • Innovation: Sam Jones
  • Inclusivity: Dany Meritet
  • Community: Jon Hash
  • Passion: Gregory Wilkerson

Here is a list of other College of Veterinary Medicine Award winners announced Thursday:

  • Awards of Excellence: Annie Hogue, Camilla Wilkins, Gail Druhy, Jon Hash and Kelsey Mills
  • Linda Manning Memorial Award for Veterinary Technicians: Patti Secoura and Shanna Rayburn
  • Huffman Leadership Award: Derek Foster 
  • Zoetis Research Award: Casey Theriot

NC State University honors awarded to veterinary faculty earlier this year include:

  • University Faculty Scholars: Ben Callahan, Santosh Mishra and Margaret Gruen.
  • Outstanding Teacher Award: Katie Sheats
  • Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Professorship Award: Duncan Lascelles
  • Outstanding Extension Award: Tal Ben-Horin
  • Research Leadership Academy: Anthony Blikslager
  • Goodnight Early Career Innovator Awards: Laurianne Van Landeghem and Caroline Laplante
  • Outstanding Early Career Faculty Achievement: Jen Halleran

Awards from outside of the university given earlier to NC State veterinary faculty or staff include:

  • AVMA – EveryCat Health Foundation Research Award: Mike Nolan
  • The Kennel Club International Canine Health Award for Outstanding Contribution to Canine Health: Duncan Lascelles
  • American Society for Microbiology – Microbiome Data Prize: Benjamin Callahan
  • NC Pork Council – WW Shay Award for Industry Distinction: Glen Almond
  • Student American Veterinary Medicine Association Champion of Student Wellbeing Award: Laura Castro
Dean Kate Meurs recognizes faculty and staff members who have reached milestone years of service.
