Crespo Becomes President of the American Association of Avian Pathologists
NC State College of Veterinary Medicine Professor Rocio Crespo has begun a one-year term as president of the American Association of Avian Pathologists. She assumed the position in July after serving for the previous year as president-elect of the organization.
“I always found my involvement in the American Association of Avian Pathologists to be very gratifying,” says Crespo, professor of Poultry Health Management. “AAAP provides tremendous support to poultry health professionals and countless opportunities to learn and improve. I am humbled to have the trust of the members, and it is my honor and privilege to give back to this great organization by serving as president.”
Established in 1957, the AAAP is an international association whose mission is to promote scientific knowledge to enhance the health, well-being and productivity of poultry in order to provide safe and abundant food for the world.
Crespo has been on the faculty at NC State since 2018. Previously she worked at the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System at the University of California, Davis, and the Avian Health and Food Safety Laboratory at Washington State University. She was chief at both labs. She has more than 20 years of experience as a poultry veterinarian.
She received her veterinary training at the Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain, with honors in animal production and economy. She attained an M.S. and DVSc (Ph.D. equivalent) at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. The primary focus of her research includes investigation of the pathogenesis and diagnosis of diseases in poultry. Crespo has over 70 publications in peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and she serves as an editor for the Journals of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation and Applied Poultry Research.
In addition to her normal duties as president, Crespo says that during her term she will focus her efforts on revising the mission and vision statements of the AAAP.
