Much of the value of the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine is immeasurable. There’s the daily dedication and doggedness of our faculty and staff, the incomparable compassion given to clients and their pets, and the devotion to innovative One Health research that benefits both animals and humans.

But, as the recent NC State CVM Economic Impact Study shows, there is a measurable financial impact of the college as well — and it is large. The North Carolina veterinary industry is big business, and it would not be so big without the CVM.

This issue of The Oath takes a look at some of the findings of the Economic Impact Study, but also expands on the various aspects of the college that contribute individually to make us such an impressive force.

You’ll read about teaching innovations that help train the next veterinary leaders, many of whom will set up shop in the state after graduation. You’ll be able to spend a day with our Veterinary Hospital’s soft tissue and oncologic service and meet the passionate surgeons behind the hospital’s cutting-edge medicine.

You’ll also read about unique research approaches that benefit North Carolina’s ever-important agriculture and food animal industry and get an idea of just how important a scholarship can be to a budding equine veterinarian.

Even though the value of a place like the CVM is difficult to completely calculate, one thing is for sure: we are invaluable.
