Sam Jones Recipient of NC State Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Professorship
Dr. Sam Jones, a professor of equine medicine in the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, is the recipient of the NC State Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Professorship honor.
The distinguished graduate professorship recognizes outstanding graduate level teaching at the university and includes a one-year award of $4,000.
“The Selections Committee was unanimous in its praise of the exceptional record of graduate student training shown by Dr. Jones,” said Dr. Rebeca Rufty, Acting Dean of the Graduate School and a member of the committee. “Particularly impressive were the letters from the students themselves, which attest to the extraordinary quality of the mentoring that Dr. Jones provides students both during and after their graduate programs at NC State.”
Dr. Jones, who joined the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998, is a recipient of the College’s Herbert Benjamin Distinguished Professorship and is the assistant head for equine programs, director of the Comparative Biomedical Sciences Program and the Combined DVM/PhD Program, and is co-director of the Veterinary Scholars Program.
With a research focus on gastrointestinal, infectious, and inflammatory diseases in horses, Dr. Jones is the principal investigator on the CVM Leukocyte Biology Lab.
Other members of the College of Veterinary Medicine to receive the Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Professorship in previous years include Dr. Kenneth Adler in 1998, Dr. Wayne Thompkins in 1999, Dr. Barbara Sherry in 2008, and Dr. Jim Riviere in 2010.
