Nelson Named Associate Dean, Academic Affairs

Laura L. Nelson, associate professor of health programs in the small animal clinical sciences department at Michigan State University, has been appointed associate dean and director of academic affairs at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). She begins work on May 8.

Nelson received a doctorate in veterinary medicine and a master’s in veterinary clinical sciences from Ohio State. She is also a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (small animal).

In addition to faculty positions at Michigan State, she previously served as an instructor at Ohio State.

Nelson has been the recipient of numerous awards for teaching and clinical proficiency, grants and has been actively engaged in numerous research projects. She is the author of numerous published articles and has been active in community outreach and service projects.

“We are delighted to have Laura Nelson as a new member of our leadership team,” said CVM Dean Paul Lunn. “She will bring a fresh vision and energy to our mission of educating a new generation of veterinary practitioners.”
