NC State Researcher Recipient of Award from International Association for Food Protection
Dr. Sid Thakur, assistant professor of swine health and reproduction at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, is the 2012 recipient of the Larry Beuchat Young Researcher Award presented at the annual meeting of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP).
The award, which involves a plaque and a $2,000 honorarium, is presented to a “young researcher who has shown outstanding ability and professional promise in the early years of his or her career in food microbiology/ food safety.”
Director of the Thakur Molecular Epidemiology Lab, Dr. Thakur‘s research focus is to understand the molecular epidemiology of important multi-drug resistant food borne pathogens in animals, food, and humans. He will officially receive the IAFP award during the organization’s 2012 Annual Meeting, which will be held July 22-25 in Providence, Rhode Island.
An organization of 3,600 food safety professionals, the IAFP is committed to advancing food safety worldwide by providing members with a forum to exchange information on protecting the global food supply. The IAFP Annual Meeting, held this year in Providence, Rhode Island, is attended by more than 2,500 leading industry, academic, and governmental food safety professionals from six continents.
