NC State CVM Helps Host One Medicine Symposium
The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine is once again helping to host the Annual “One Medicine” Symposium from 8:30 a.m. to 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center in Durham.
The theme of the 2010 symposium, Reality Bites: A One Medicine Approach to Vector-borne Diseases, focuses on the effects of vector-borne diseases on human and animal health. This year’s agenda encourages human and animal health professionals to come together to explore key questions to improve awareness and understanding of issues benefiting from a One Medicine approach. Conference objectives:
• Describe diagnosis, treatment, surveillance, vector control measures in people, animals for vector-borne diseases.
• Discuss similarities/ differences of disease ecology, diagnosis, case management between people and animals.
• Discuss the impact of our changing ecology on wildlife and disease risks for people, animals in Southeastern U.S.
• Emphasize the “One Medicine” approach of close cooperation between human and veterinary medicine for a rapid and effective response to emerging vector-borne diseases.
The “One Medicine” Symposium is for physicians, nurses, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, public health professionals, environmental health specialists, agriculture professionals, wildlife professionals, and federal, military, state, and local disaster responders.
