Johanna Elfenbein Recipient of the Young Investigator Award
Johanna Elfenbein, an equine internal medicine specialist and assistant professor of equine medicine, was awarded first place in the Young Investigator Award competition at the Merial NIH Veterinary Scholars Symposium, held in August 2015 at UC Davis. The competition, sponsored by the American Veterinary Medical Association and its charitable foundation, the AVMF, recognizes the scientific advancements made by veterinarians who are pursuing advanced research training through doctoral or post-doctoral programs. Elfenbein presented her work in a talk entitled “Multicopy single-stranded DNA directs intestinal colonization of enteric pathogens”.
Dr. Elfenbein was selected as one of 5 finalists (from 47 national and international submissions) to present her research at this meeting. Dr. Elfenbein’s work was awarded the top award for her innovation, experimental design, potential impact of results and outcomes, and relevance to comparative biomedicine.
This is the 4th year of the past 5 years that this award has been given to an NC State researcher. (Previous winners were Derek Foster, Deb Tokarz and Liz Lennon.)
