Greta Johansen To Step Down as Assistant Dean of Business and Finance for NC State College of Veterinary Medicine

Ms. Greta Johansen is stepping down from her position as Assistant Dean of Business and Finance for North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM).  The move is effective December 31st, 2016. A national search will be performed in the upcoming months to permanently fill this position.

A graduate of the Craig School of Business, at Fresno State University, Greta Johansen received her MBA in 1989 before joining NC State University that same year, initially in a part time position. She became a permanent employee in 1991, and served in a variety of roles before assuming her current position as Assistant Dean of Business and Finance for the College under Dean Oscar Fletcher in January, 2000.  Over the years, Greta has overseen enormous growth in the College, masterfully administering all the business and finance processes in an increasingly complex environment, in addition to oversight of Information Technology, and our Site and construction processes. Greta has been a key strategic leader for all of the CVM’s financial resources.

“It is hard to quantify, but very significant are the countless hours of advice Gretaprovided – often many times per day to me, Department Heads, Associate Deans, Departmental Accountants, and individual faculty – answers to a variety of budget questions,” says Dean Fletcher. “Her efforts are reflected in our success in hiring and retaining faculty, having funds available to take advantage of matching opportunities that led to acquiring of new and replacing of old equipment, renovations of physical facilities, funding for new facilities.”

Ms. Johansen has served under four Dean and Acting Dean administrations, and has had a profound impact on the CVM’s growth and development.  “Greta is an exceptionally gifted and talented person who has made significant contributions to both the College of Veterinary Medicine and the University as a whole,” says Provost Warwick Arden, former Dean of the CVM.  “Among her greatest attributes are her sense of equity and fairness, her innovation, and dedication to caring for stakeholders of the college and fellow employees. Her experience and expertise will be greatly missed.”
