Teresa DeFrancesco, NC State College of Veterinary Medicine professor of cardiology and ICU critical care, is the recipient of the newly established Cobblestone TAGS Faculty Excellence Award in Cardiology. The award was created and funded by Deborah and Paul Resnick, longtime supporters of the CVM and the NC State Veterinary Hospital.

The award recognizes faculty providing compassionate care and dedication to heart disease research. It celebrates the clinician/scientist, equally dedicated to providing patient care and advancing research.

The Resnicks have owned four Cavalier King Charles spaniels; three suffered from heart ailments. The award is named after the Cobblestone Kennels in Suffolk, Va., the breeder for all four dogs, and the dogs themselves: Tugger, Alfie, Gypsy and Simon, collectively TAGS.

“I accept this award on behalf of the entire cardiology team,” said DeFrancesco. “Medicine is a team sport and we get results because we work so well together.”
