CVM Faculty Member Recipient of International Equine Research Award
Anthony Blikslager, professor of equine surgery at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, is the recipient of the prestigious, peer-nominated Merial Applied Equine Research Award for his work in equine pain management.
The international award annually recognizes "outstanding research conducted in a specific field of applied equine science in the past five years” and the 2011 award specifically honors advances in pain management of horses.
Dr. Blikslager, whose research specialty is gastroenterology, is a member of the Equine Health Program in the CVM Department of Clinical Sciences. He will be recognized during opening ceremonies of the World Equine Veterinary Association’s 12th WEVA Congress being held Nov. 2-5 in Hyderabad, India. Dr. Blikslager, who will be presented with the award and a check for $6,000, will present attending international equine veterinarians with an oral and written summary of his pain management efforts.
The World Equine Veterinary Association was established in 1985 as a division of the World Veterinary Association. The goal of the WEVA is "to advance the health and welfare of horses worldwide by promoting and offering quality continuing education for equine practitioners, specifically in countries with limited access to high quality, broad-based professional education."
