Annie Chavent, a fourth-year student at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, is a recipient of the 2015 Markel/ American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) Foundation Scholarship Award.

According to the AAEP Foundation, the scholarship is awarded to eight veterinary students selected from 36 AAEP chapters in North America and the West Indies who have the support of their chapter and their clinical instructors, and who plan to pursue a career in equine veterinary practice and “exhibit academic excellence and leadership in activities that benefit the health and welfare of the horse.”

“This is a prestigious scholarship and only eight students are selected from among all AAEP chapters,” says Dr. Callie Fogle, equine surgeon and faculty advisor to the NCSU student chapter of the AAEP. “It is a great recognition for Annie and for the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine Equine Health Program.”

The recognition involves a $2,500 scholarship and a $300 travel stipend for Chavent to attend the AAEP’s 61st Annual Convention Dec. 5-9 in Las Vegas, Nevada where she will receive the honor. This is the third time in six years a NC State student received this honor. Ashley Barnes (2012) and Chelsey Miller (2010) were other recipients.
