AAAP Foundation/Merck Animal Health Award Scholarships to CVM Students

Sarah Reichelt and Brandon Taylor Armwood, both third-year students at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, are recipients of $5,000 scholarship awards from the American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) Foundation and Merck Animal Health.

This is the inaugural year of AAAP Foundation/Merck Animal Health Veterinary Student Scholarship Program, which supports second- and third-year veterinary students who are focused on avian health. Five awards were presented nationally.

Reichelt, who earned her bachelor’s degree in poultry science and zoology from NC State, has interned at Prestage Farms and Cobb Vantress. As noted in the award announcement, Reichelt expects to work as a poultry veterinarian with a focus on animal welfare and consumer education.

Armwood earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, and has completed internships at National Veterinary Services Laboratory, Butterball, and the University of Georgia Poultry Diagnostic Research Center. Following graduation, he would like to work as a technical service or broiler breeder veterinarian.

Reichelt and Armwood will be recognized at the AAAP Annual Conference in August.
Recipients of the scholarship will be recognized at the AAAP Annual Conference August 5-9 in San Antonio.
