You’re Invited! NC State College of Veterinary Medicine to host Open House on March 8
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the college and veterinary hospital will welcome the community for a free behind-the-scenes look at our advanced veterinary research, training and medical care.

Where in North Carolina can you find a teddy bear repair clinic, try your hand at a mock clinical trial and learn about animal health from some of the most accomplished veterinarians in the world? Right here in Raleigh, at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine!
Once a year, the College of Veterinary Medicine opens its doors for an Open House to offer the community the opportunity to explore the wide world of veterinary medicine and research. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, you’re invited to come see what it’s like to study, work and learn at North Carolina’s only veterinary medical college.
This extremely popular free event welcomes visitors of all ages to see firsthand how we are driving breakthroughs in veterinary research, training and medical care every day. No science background? No problem: Our faculty, staff and students are happy to walk you through our campus on a guided tour of our state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories and clinics and teach you a thing or two along the way.
“I hope people take away that veterinary medicine is so vast and so involved in our everyday lives,” Ly Le, a third-year student and senior Open House coordinator with NC State’s chapter of SAVMA, the Student American Veterinary Medical Association. “We help every part of the community, whether it’s rescuing turtles and rehabilitating them, or helping with clinical breakthroughs that make the next big thing in medicine.”

This year’s Open House activities include:
- Behind-the-scenes tours of the Veterinary Hospital
- Hands-on activities led by students and staff
- Animal demonstrations hosted by local community partners
- Stuffed animal repairs at our Teddy Bear Clinic — bring a well-loved friend on the mend or meet a new one from our limited supply
- Kid zones featuring Marbles Kids Museum’s Ready, Set, Vet booth
- Sessions led by veterinary medicine researchers
- Presentations from current College of Veterinary Medicine students
- Food trucks and Howling Cow ice cream available for purchase
- A meet and greet with Mr. Wuf and Ms. Wuf
Members of the college community are excited to share what’s new around our campus since last year’s event, including a reworked integrative curriculum and a new dairy facility.
“The latest and greatest addition to Open House this year is our brand-new dairy barn,” Le says. “It is a state-of-the-art facility that helps increase productivity and efficiency for the dairy cows, as well as helps the students to learn more about dairy medicine.”
The Open House is also an opportunity for the College of Veterinary Medicine and its students to inspire the next generation of healers. There are many specialties available within veterinary medicine, and each person’s path into the field is unique.
“I always wanted to be a veterinarian, personally, but there definitely was a time in my life where I didn’t think that I’d be able to do it,” says Peyton Jameson, a member of the Class of 2027 and SAVMA junior Open House coordinator. “And I think it’s really important with the Open House, specifically, for members of the community to come and see students that are in the program, be able to ask them questions and sort of gain that level of understanding of what they want to get into.”
