Meet the CVM Class of 2026

Perseverance is the hallmark of the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2026. 

The last three years of their academic lives have included the complications of a pandemic and social upheaval. Yet they have persisted and met the rigorous requirements to land a coveted spot in the incoming class at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine.

When classes begin Aug. 8, students from South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Ohio, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Arizona, California, Florida and Guam will join North Carolina residents, including 25 from Wake County, as first years at the college.

The Class of 2026 includes graduates from 41 academic institutions, including NC State University. There are 42 NC State grads in the group.

It is a multiethnic class that includes 16 African American, 13 Hispanic, nine multiracial, five Asian and one Native American students.

Here’s a closer look at the CVM Class of 2026:

1,907: Total number of applicants to this year’s class – 345 from North Carolina residents and 1,562 from nonresidents

96 to 12: The ratio of women-to-men in the class

6: Students from Puerto Rico

23.34: Average age of a new student

3.69: Average GPA for the incoming class

37: The total number of students planning to specialize in some form of small animal medicine. Other areas of interest include mixed animal medicine (17), zoological medicine (8), large ruminant medicine (7) and clinician scientist (7). 

All are members of the NC State family now, and they will soon be doing their part to improve the health and well-being of both animals and humans.
