IRONDOG 5K Charity Event Saturday Aids Veterinary Patients in Need of Support

The inaugural Raleigh IRONDOG 5K run, a charity event supporting patients in need at the North Carolina State University’s Randall B. Terry, Jr. Companion Animal Veterinary Medical Center, will be held beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

IRONDOG raises money for seriously ill animals whose owners may not be able to afford their medical care at the College of Veterinary Medicine and are forced to make difficult decisions based on financial constraints.

Participants may enter as a competitive or recreational runner. Competitive runners receive a chip and an official time in the RunNC-sanctioned event. Recreational runners will not receive an official time but will see their course time on a digital clock at the finish line. The course will be on the 160-acre grounds of the NC Museum of Art beginning at the amphitheater.

The IRONDOG entry fee is $30 and the first male and female finisher will each receive a gift certificate to Inside-Out Sports. Gift certificates will also be presented to the top male and female finishers in seven different age groups: 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-over. The second and third place finishers will receive water bottles. There also are awards for the top male and female veterinarians and veterinary students.

In addition to the 5K, the event also features a one-mile Dog Walk and the course finishing time will be displayed for those participants. Entry fee for the Dog Walk is $25.

Runners and walkers who register online through Thursday receive a tee-shirt. Late registration will be available beginning at 1 p.m. before the race.
