Two NC State College of Veterinary Medicine students are recipients of scholarships from the American Veterinary Medical Foundation and Merck Animal Health.

Jordan Briggs and Sahar Sheikh-Ahmad, both of the class of 2020, are among the 56 international veterinary students awarded a $5,000 Merck Animal Health Veterinary Student Scholarship.

Briggs and Sheikh-Ahmad were chosen from more than 1,200 applicants for the scholarships, awarded to second- and third-year vet students in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Southeast Asia and Latin America. Scholarships are split between students with food animal, aquaculture, companion animal and equine focuses.

Applications are evaluated on academic excellence, leadership performance and financial need. More than 100 veterinary students have been awarded the scholarships under the AVMF and Merck partnership.

Last year, four CVM students received the scholarship: Kristen Malinak, class of 2018, and Erin Beasley, Kelly Hood and Jenna Scott, all of the class of 2019.
